GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats were defeated in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Saturday by the Bethany Bison, 79-68.
The Tomcats led 20-15 after 10 minutes of play, but the Bison bounced back in the second quarter to take a 36-32 lead into the locker room. Bethany extended its lead to 12 points after three quarters (56-44). In the fourth,
Taylor Duchon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) cut the lead down to six points (70-64) on a three-pointer with 2:01 remaining in regulation but the Tomcats were unable to get any closer down the stretch.
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) led the Tomcats with 22 points and five rebounds. Also for Thiel, Duchon scored 20 points while contributing five rebounds, five assists, three blocks and a pair of steals.
Danyelle Lucido (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) also scored eight points.
Two Bison recorded double-doubles in the win. Kelsea Daugherty scored 20 points and corralled 14 rebounds while Kelsi Settle scored 16 points and came up with 13 rebounds. Sammie Weiss also scored 18 points.
The Tomcats will return to action Wednesday when they host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
