GREENVILLE, Pa. – Junior guard
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) scored 25 points and corralled 17 rebounds Saturday to lead the Thiel College women's basketball team to a 65-54 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Vormelker's 17 rebounds were a career single-game best. In all, she made 8-of-15 shots from the floor, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. She also recorded five assists and four blocks.
Thiel also got key contributions from
Brijae Journee (Cleveland, Ohio/Villa-Angela St. Joseph) and
Sarah Nagy (Hadley, Pa./Commodore Perry), who each scored 11 points. Also for Thiel,
Danyelle Lucido (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds while
Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) scored seven points and came up with three steals.
The Tomcats led 25-21 at halftime and by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Noelle Henry paced Geneva with 14 points. Jodie Carlson and Lydia Songer also chipped in with nine points apiece.
The Tomcats (3-3, 2-1 PAC) will take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on the road Saturday. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
