WASHINGTON, Pa. – The No. 16/15-ranked Washington & Jefferson Presidents defeated the Thiel Tomcats Monday at Cameron Stadium, 55-3.
W&J opened up a 21-0 first quarter lead on touchdown runs by Matt Heslin (1-yard) and Justin Vickless (71 yards) and a 3-yard touchdown catch by Jesse Zubik from Alex Rowse.
The Tomcats got on the scoreboard 10:29 into the second quarter when
Chris Rosales (Port St. Lucie, Fla./St. Lucie West Centennial) made a 29-yard field goal to cap off a 14-play, 63-yard drive.
Vickless led the Presidents with 130 yards and two touchdown runs on eight carries. Heslin scored three rushing touchdowns. Rowse completed 14-of-15 passes for 229 yards with a pair of touchdown strikes.
Nick Barca (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the Tomcats with 62 yards on the ground on 21 totes.
Charles Debose (Buffalo, N.Y./Cardinal O'Hara) and Taiwain Watkins combined to add 45 yards on eight carries.
Ronald Brown (Munhall, Pa./University Prep) completed six passes for 48 yards.
Ryan Rowland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) caught two passes for 23 yards.
Jake Elk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led Thiel's defense with 13 tackles. Dalton Day and Tom Marra led W&J with seven tackles apiece.
The Tomcats will return to action Saturday, Oct. 14 when they host the Case Western Reserve Spartans at Alumni Stadium during Homecoming 2017. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
