GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match to Westminster College by a final score of 5-1. The Tomcats scored a late goal by
Marissa Ramirez (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) to avoid the shutout.
The Titans came out strong on offense registering 11 first half shots. Westminster scored in the 13' on a corner kick that was headed in by Regan Moorhouse to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
The offense continued for the Titans in the 26' as Marissa Grande finished on a cross in the box to make it 2-0. Jillian Kress added another goal minutes later on long shot outside the box that put the game at 3-0.
Alexandria Applin added a late first half goal on an assisted breakaway that pushed the Westminster lead to 4-0.
The Tomcats battled in the second half as they did not allow a goal in the half until the 79' when Corrine Larson buried a ball in the corner of the net to make it 5-0.
Marissa Ramirez (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) put the Tomcats on the board with a shot from the corner that deflected in off a Westminster defender in the 89'.
With the loss, Thiel falls to 3-9 and 0-3 in the PAC. The Tomcats will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Waynesburg University for a PAC match, kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
