BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel College men's basketball team dropped a close Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Saturday afternoon on the road to the Bethany Bison, 73-70.
The Tomcats held a two-point advantage heading to halftime. The Bison overtook the Tomcats early in the second half and got out to a 12-point lead with 10 minutes left in regulation. A late run pulled the Tomcats back in the game, highlighted by a three-pointer by
Tyreik Burton (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) that cut the Bison lead to 71-70 with 10 seconds remaining. Free-throws by Chaice Truex sealed the victory for the Bison.
Josh Lumbus (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) led the Tomcats with 17 points and nine rebounds. Lumbus shot 7-of-11 from the field.
Avril Campbell (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) tallied 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Campbell also grabbed five rebounds. Burton scored 14 points, all in second half, in the loss.
Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) recorded eight points and eight rebounds for the Tomcats.
Truex and Javonte' Trujillo both scored 11 points for the Bison.
The Tomcats (7-4, 3-3 PAC) will return home on Wednesday, Jan. 11 when they host the Saint Vincent Bearcats. Tip off from Beeghly Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
