GREENVILLE, Pa. –
Katelyn Labos (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored a pair of goals for the Thiel College women's soccer team Tuesday, but it wasn't enough in a 3-2 non-conference loss to the Marietta Pioneers at Alumni Stadium.
Labos gave the Tomcats the lead 16 seconds into regulation when she kicked in a pass from
Kaytee Candela (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside). The Pioneers evened the score a little more than 11 minutes later when Raeli Barnes knocked in a rebound off Layne Archer's shot.
Labos put the Tomcats back on top in the 25
th minute when she knocked in a corner kick from
Maddie Sollers (Mogadore, Ohio/Field).
Barnes tied the score, 2-2, when scored in the 70
th minute on an assist in the box from France Moise. Barnes went on to net the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation on another pass in the box, this one from Sophia Moise.
Barnes led the Pioneers with three goals. Labos led the Tomcats with two goals.
Kim Gentry (Madison, Ohio/Madison) made 16 saves for the Tomcats while Rebecca Tenney made three saves for the Pioneers.
The Tomcats will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Saturday when they travel to New Wilmington, Pa., to face the Westminster Titans. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
