GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team is set to compete in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) Championship Tournament for the second time in the two-year history of the league.
The fourth-seeded Tomcats, who finished the regular season 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the ORLC, will face the defending champion and first-seeded Transylvania Pioneers on the road in the semifinals of the tournament tonight at 5 p.m. The Pioneers enter the tournament with a record of 8-6 overall and 6-1 in the ORLC.
The Tomcats defeated the Pioneers in the regular season 12-10 on April 2. Timothy O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Tomcats with six goals and an assist. Charles Wistner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) stopped 21 Pioneer shots in the game.
O'Shea tied for the conference lead in goals (40) while finishing tied for second in points (59). Wistner led the ORLC in save percentage (58.3 percent) and goals against (88) while finishing second in goals-against average (7.91).
Third-seeded Washington & Jefferson will take on second-seeded Hanover in the other semifinal game tonight. The ORLC Championship game will take place Saturday with the lower remaining seed playing at the higher remaining seed.
