Tomcats sweep Cougars in doubleheader

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team won two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games Tuesday over the Chatham Cougars at Tomcat Park. The Tomcats won the first game 8-0 in five innings before earning a 4-3 win in the second game of the doubleheader.
 
The Tomcats picked up three runs in the second inning of the first game. Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) scored on a wild pitch to open scoring, and Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and Alexa Fike (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) scored later in the inning on a throwing error by the Cougars.
 
The Tomcats scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Fike and Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) both drove in a pair of runs on RBI-singles to center field while Shyanne Sanders (Herminie, Pa./Yough) recorded one RBI on a single to center field.
 
Sanders led the Tomcats in the first game with a pair of singles while Fullmer and Fike notched two RBIs apiece.
 
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) earned the win in Game 1, her sixth of the season. She tossed a five-inning shutout and allowed just one hit.
 
In the second game, Amanda Auxier (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) staked the Tomcats to an early 2-0 first-inning lead on a two-RBI single to left field. Chatham scored a trio of runs in the second to take a 3-2 lead.
 
After three scoreless innings, Sanders drove in the game-tying and game-winning runs on a two-out single down the right field line in the sixth inning.
 
Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton), Cara Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry) and Fike each recorded two hits for the Tomcats in Game 2. Auxier and Sanders both notched two RBIs.
 
Brianna Flynn (Clark, Pa./Sharpsville) earned her fifth win of the season in the second game. She threw three innings of scoreless relief and allowed just one hit while striking out three batters. Kelley threw the first four innings. She allowed three runs on four hits while striking out six batters and issuing two walks.
 
The Tomcats are scheduled to host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents Thursday at Tomcat Park. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
