FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team capped off their annual Florida trip with a 1-0 victory over the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
Jaden Nozicka (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) shut down the Warriors' bats pitching a complete game, five-hit shutout. Nozicka faced four over the minimum and struck out four batters.
Matt Elko (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire) had a three-day in the win for the Tomcats, driving home the only run for Thiel on a RBI bloop single to shallow left field that scored
Josh Doody (Grove City, Pa. /Grove City) from third base.
Dan Koller (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) also had a multi-hit game while Doody,
Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan),
Trent Mosley (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) and
Sam Passafiume (Medina, Ohio/Medina) each recorded a hit for the Tomcats.
Brock Vredeveld was the hard-luck loser for the Warriors, also pitching a complete game and surrendering an earned run off of nine hits.
The Tomcats (6-2) will return north for their home opener on Saturday, March 19 when they take on the John Carroll Blue Streaks. First pitch will be at 1 p.m. from Tomcat Park.
