GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team lost its home opener Saturday to the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome, 12-7.
 
The Tomcats held a 6-4 lead at halftime, but the Purple Raiders outscored the Tomcats 8-1 in the second half to earn the non-conference win in the season opener for both teams.
 
Timothy O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Tomcats with three goals and three assists. Jared Saffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) also chipped in with a goal and two helpers.
 
Netminder Charles Wistner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) made 17 saves for the Tomcats while Collin Peters made seven saves for the Purple Raiders.
 
Chris Daley led Mount Union with five goals and an assist while Hogan Harris scored three goals. Also for Mount Union, Michael Muniak handed out three assists.
 
Thiel will return to action Saturday, Feb. 27 against Hampton University. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
