GREENVILLE, Pa. –
Luke Kochka (Monroeville, Pa. /Gateway) scored 30 points, matching his career high, to lead the Thiel Tomcats to a 78-66 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory Saturday over the Westminster Titans at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead Saturday, but the Titans battled back to hold a 30-28 lead at halftime. Kochka went on to score 19 of his 30 points in the second half. He made 5-of-10 shots from the floor over the final 20 minutes and made 7-of-8 shots from the line.
Khari Bess (Waldorf, Md./Maurice J. McDonough) scored 13 points for the Tomcats while recording nine steals and four assists. With his 13-point effort, Bess reached the 1,000-point plateau Saturday. He currently ranks 10
th in Thiel history in career points (1,006) having recently surpassed Daryl Moore, who amassed 983 points from 2001-05.
Also for the Tomcats,
Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington),
Avril Campbell (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) and
Aaron Burton (Colesville, Md./Springbrook) each scored seven points. Cetoute and Campbell also tallied 14 and 12 rebounds, respectively. The Tomcats dominated the Titans in rebounding (62-38).
Paul Carswell led the Titans with 18 points while securing a team-best seven rebounds. Brandon Domenick also contributed 11 points for the Titans.
The Tomcats (12-11, 10-6 PAC) will return to action Wednesday when they host the Saint Vincent Bearcats at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
