GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats earned an 83-74 non-conference win over the Kalamazoo Hornets Thursday evening at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel trailed Kalamazoo 74-72 late in the fourth quarter but finished the game on an 11-0 run over the final 3:49 to pick up the non-conference victory. Senior guard
Erin DiFalco (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) started the run with a three-pointer, and
Brijae Journee (Cleveland, Ohio/Villa-Angela St. Joseph) followed with a layup.
Taylor Duchon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) nailed a three-pointer with 2:25 remaining to give the Tomcats a six-point cushion. DiFalco made a pair of freebies down the stretch while Journee made one shot from the charity stripe.
Duchon led the Tomcats with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) pulled down 11 rebounds and scored 10 points to record her fifth double-double of the season. Also for the Tomcats, Journee netted 10 points while freshman guard
Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) handed out 10 assists and scored four points.
Emily Kozal led the Hornets with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Amanda Moss scored 16 points while Danielle Simon scored eight points and secured eight rebounds.
The Tomcats (4-5, 1-2 PAC) will take on the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on the road Saturday. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
