BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats were defeated in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on the road Saturday by the Geneva Golden Tornadoes, 71-63.
Thiel opened the fourth quarter on a 7-3 run, which cut Geneva's lead to three points (60-57). However, the Tomcats would get no closer down the stretch and the Golden Tornadoes held on for the conference win.
Taylor Duchon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the Tomcats with a game-high 21 points while also securing seven rebounds.
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) notched her sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Vormelker also contributed five assists.
Also for the Tomcats,
Jessica Lovell (Washington, Pa./Trinity) chipped in 11 points and five rebounds while
Brijae Journee (Cleveland, Ohio/Villa-Angela St. Joseph) scored seven points and collected four rebounds.
Danyelle Lucido (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) scored five points and grabbed five rebounds.
Callie Ford led the Golden Tornadoes with 12 points and eight rebounds. Jodie Carlson also scored 12 points while Miranda Heaney scored 11 points.
The Tomcats (4-6, 1-3 PAC) will return to action Thursday, Jan. 5 when they take on the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on the road. The PAC game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
