MARIETTA, Ohio – The Thiel College women's volleyball team was cut short in their comeback attempt against the Marietta College Pioneers, falling in five sets (22-25, 16-25, 25-15, 25-17, 16-18) in their opening match at the River City Volleyball Tournament.
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) recorded 32 assists, 18 digs, eight kills and five service aces for the Tomcats, two kills shy from earning a triple-double.
Danielle Gomula (Northfield, Ohio/Trinity) paced the Tomcat attack with a team-high 11-kill performance while
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) had seven kills with three block assists.
Alivia Sidley (Thompson, Ohio/Ledgemont) and
Bailey Holmes (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Grand Valley) each had four block assists while Sidley had six kills.
Ashley Baer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) dug out 24 Pioneer attacks.
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith had a game-high 12 kills for the Pioneers.
The Tomcats (0-2) continue play in the River City Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 5 when they take on the Centre College Colonials at 11 a.m. and the Union College Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m.
