GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team concluded its 2015 season Saturday with a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) wins over the Grove City Wolverines. The Tomcats won 8-6 in the first game and 6-3 in the second game.
Leading 4-3 in the first game, Thiel extended its lead to three runs in the fifth inning on a pair of runs produced by
Jena Bukovac (White, Pa./Connellsville Area), who drove in a run a double and came around to score on a wild pitch.
Cara Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) led the Tomcats at the plate in Game 1 with a 2-for-4 performance that included two RBIs.
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) also went 2-for-4 with a run scored while
Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) drove in two runs.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) earned the win in the first game to conclude her senior season with a 9-5 record. She tossed all seven innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
After falling behind 2-0 in the second game, the Tomcats tallied six runs over the final two innings to earn the sweep.
The Tomcats plated four runs in the sixth, two of which were aided by a Grove City error.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) produced the other two runs on a 2-RBI single.
Massengill knocked in another run in the seventh on a double, and
Madison Cheek (Milan, Ohio/Milan-Edison) followed with an RBI-single to record the Tomcats' sixth run of the contest.
Massengill and Cheek both went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the second game.
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while
A.J. Corradi (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) also recorded a pair of hits.
Brianna Flynn (Clark, Pa./Sharpsville) threw a complete game and earned the win in Game 2. She allowed two earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
The Tomcats went 16-16 overall and 9-9 in PAC play in 2015.
