LATROBE, Pa. – The second-seeded Thiel College women's lacrosse team suffered a 14-10 defeat to the top-seeded Saint Vincent Bearcats Saturday in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) championship game, which took place at Chuck Noll Field on the campus of Saint Vincent College.
After tying the game late in the first half Thiel took a 10-7 lead with a little more than 21 minutes to go in the game behind goals from
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) (2),
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) and
Jenna Simanovsky (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North). However, the Bearcats scored seven unanswered goals to win the inaugural ORLC championship.
Mahdi and Simanovsky both registered hat tricks for the Tomcats while Mahdi also recorded three ground balls, two assists and two caused turnovers. Harrigan added two goals while
Samantha Burkhardt (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and
Hannah Stelmach (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) each put a goal in the back of the net.
Abby Spriggs (Westminster, Md./Westminster) made five saves in more than 40 minutes of work.
The Tomcats finished the 2015 season 11-7 overall and 8-1 in the ORLC.
