BABSON PARK, Fla. – In a game that went back-and-forth with five lead changes, the Thiel College women's basketball team fell two points shy (56-54) in a non-conference contest against the Webber International University Warriors Wednesday in Babson Park, Fla.
Trailing by eight points at the end of the third quarter, the Tomcats opened the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run and took the lead (48-46) when
Alivia Sidley (Thompson, Ohio/Ledgemont) drained a three-pointer with 6:21 remaining in regulation.
Neither team led by more than four points down the stretch. Deslyn Applewhaite scored the game-winning bucket for the Warriors on a jumper with five seconds left on the game clock.
Applewhaite led Webber with 13 points while Jurnee Pettigrew and Jessica Colson scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Quanthavia Stalworth corralled a game-high 13 rebounds for the Warriors.
Taylor Ketler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) led the Tomcats with 10 points.
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) scored nine points while leading Thiel with 11 rebounds.
Taylor Duchon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) also contributed nine points while
Hannah Stoneman (Sugarcreek, Ohio/Hiland) and Sidley scored eight points apiece.
The Tomcats will return to action Jan. 2 when they host the Thomas More Saints in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Beeghly Gymnasium. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
