BETHANY, W.Va. – Freshman forward
Dominic Walker (Kent, Ohio/Field) scored five goals and tallied 10 points, both single-game program records, to lead the Thiel Tomcats to a 6-5 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over the Bethany Bison at Hoag Field Saturday.
Dalton Young (Salem, Ohio/West Branch) gave the Tomcats an early lead, 10:08 into the contest, when he scored on an assist from
Zachary Oliver (Bridgeport, Ohio/St. Clairsville). Bethany went on to take a 2-1 lead on goals roughly three minutes apart.
Walker scored his first goal at the 24:45 mark on a pass from
Jordan Lilley (Jamestown, Ohio/Greeneview) and reclaimed the lead for the Tomcats approximately three minutes later when he buried a pass from
Dugan Paxton (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman).
Bethany managed to tie up the contest when Jack Waters scored with 5:57 remaining before halftime.
Walker and Waters exchanged goals early in the second half to force a 4-4 tie. Walker went on to put the Tomcats back on top, 5-4, at the 62:16 mark on a pass from
Jon Fennick (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock ).
Christian Cornoa scored the game-tying goal for the Bison with roughly 18 minutes to play in regulation.
Walker's fifth goal of the game, which was unassisted, was scored with 12 minutes left in the contest. The go-ahead goal stood as the eventual game-winner.
Walker scored five goals and tallied 10 points in the game, both program single-game records. Lilley added a pair of helpers.
Trey Roller (Girard, Ohio/Ursuline) made seven saves in 90 minutes of work to earn the win for the Thiel.
Riley Harrison made six saves for Bethany. Waters led the Bison with three goals.
The win was Thiel's first over a PAC opponent since Oct. 29, 2010 (vs. Waynesburg, 2-1).
