Box Score 2 BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match Wednesday at Geneva College, defeating the Golden Tornadoes and Chatham Cougars.
The Tomcats swept the Cougars 3-0 (25-4, 25-10, 25-11). Freshman
Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) notched seven kills and three digs while junior
Bailey Holmes (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Grand Valley) recorded six kills and two service aces.
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) and
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) each had four kills;
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) had 24 assists.
In the last match of the day the Tomcats took on the host Golden Tornadoes and pulled off a hard-fought 3-1 victory, winning by game scores of 25-21, 7-25, 25-21 and 25-22. Hall recorded a double-double against Geneva with a dozen kills and a dozen digs.
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) notched 12 kills while
Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) recorded 12 digs and
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) handed out 27 assists. The Tomcats fell behind in their last two sets against the Golden Tornadoes but stormed back to win both games and seal the victory.
The Tomcats (3-3, 2-0 PAC) will be back in action Wednesday Sept. 10 when they host the Bethany Bison. Action will kick off at Beeghly Gymnasium at 7 p.m
