GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team was defeated in five sets 3-2 (25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 18-25, 15-9) in a fierce, back-and-forth match with conference rival Washington & Jefferson Tuesday night.
Senior Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) secured her fourth double-double of the season and led the Tomcats with a game-high 16 kills, along with 28 digs. Freshman Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) knocked down 10 kills and blocked four President attempts while sophomore Ashley Baer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) and senior Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) had 26 and 24 digs, respectively. Sophomore setter Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) had 44 assists for the Tomcats.
Lindsey Bennett led the Presidents with a double-double of her own with 14 digs and 10 kills. Allison Means also had 29 digs for the Presidents.
The Tomcats (5-10, 2-3 PAC) will be back in action Thursday when they travel north to Erie, Pa. to take on the Penn State-Behrend Lions. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
