Box Score 2 MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team split their final two matches Saturday during the second and final day of competition at the 2014 Allegheny Gator Invitational.
Thiel opened the day with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23) loss to the Adrian Bulldogs. The Tomcats recovered and finished strong to end the tournament with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-19) sweep over the Mounties of Mount Aloysius.
Senior
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) recorded 14 kills along with six digs for the Tomcats against Adrian. Freshman
Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) also added eight kills and seven blocks while senior
Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) tallied 16 digs in the loss.
Brueggman notched 10 kills and had four blocks for Tomcats in their game against Mount Aloysius. Sophomore
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) tallied 11 kills while Hall added eight kills. Downs and sophomore
Ashley Baer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) had nine and seven digs, respectively. Sophomore
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) dished out 29 assists in the win.
Brueggman was named to the 2014 Allegheny Gator Invitational All-Tournament Team. Altogether in the tournament, she had 32 kills, 12 blocks and 11 digs.
The Tomcats (5-6, 2-1 PAC) will be back in action this Wednesday when they take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats in Latrobe, Pa. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
