Box Score 2 MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday during the first day of competition at the Allegheny Gator Invitational.
Thiel opened the day with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) sweep over the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. The Tomcats fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-17) to the tournament host Gators in the nightcap.
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) recorded nine kills against Pitt Greensburg while
Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) tallied 14 digs and
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) handed out 22 assists.
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) notched seven kills while
Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) tallied six kills and two digs.
Shelley had a double-double against Allegheny with 22 assists and 13 digs.
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) was one kill shy of a double-double. She finished with 13 digs and nine kills. Downs recorded 13 digs while Brueggman came up with eight kills and four digs.
The Tomcats (4-5, 2-1 PAC) will resume play in the Allegheny Gator Invitational Saturday morning when they take on the Adrian College Bulldogs at 10 a.m. Thiel will conclude play in the invitational in a match against Mount Aloysius at 2 p.m.
