Box Score 2 ADA, Ohio – The Thiel College women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2014 season Saturday during the second and final day of action at the 36
th annual Ohio Northern University Invitational.
Thiel earned its first win of the season Saturday morning with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-23) sweep over the College of Wooster.
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) notched a double-double in the win with 15 digs and 11 kills.
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) recorded 31 assists and seven digs while
Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) tallied 16 digs.
A senior, Downs was named to the All-Tournament team Saturday. She contributed 25 digs in a hard-fought 3-0 (25-10, 26-24, 26-4) loss to the Thomas More Saints in the Tomcats' last match of the tournament Saturday.
Also against Thomas More, Hall tallied 15 digs and five kills while Shelley and freshman outside hitter
Jessa Covine (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Maplewood) contributed 11 digs apiece. Shelley also added 16 assists for a double-double.
The Tomcats (1-3) will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 3 when they take part in a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match against Geneva and Chatham at Geneva College. The Tomcats will play the Chatham Cougars at 6 p.m. and the Geneva Golden Tornadoes at 8 p.m.
