Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ADA, Ohio – The Thiel College women's volleyball team opened up the 2014 season Friday at the Ohio Northern University Invitational.
 
Thiel opened tournament play with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-9) loss to Ohio Northern University before falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-17) to Defiance College.
 
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) recorded nine kills and nine digs against Ohio Northern while Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) tallied 11 digs. Also against Ohio Northern, Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) handed out 12 assists.
 
Shelley notched 24 assists against Defiance to go along with nine digs. Hall recorded 10 digs and six kills while Downs contributed nine digs. Also for Thiel, Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) chipped in with seven kills and five digs.
 
The Tomcats (0-2) will be back in action Saturday during the second day of competition at the Ohio Northern University Invitational. Thiel will take on the College of Wooster at 10 a.m. and Thomas More College at 2 p.m.
