Men's Lacrosse hosts Mount Union

Tomcats suffer 17-7 setback to Purple Raiders

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcat men's lacrosse squad suffered a 17-7 setback to the Mount Union Purple Raiders Wednesday evening at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.

Michael Taylor and Josh Stephens each scored three goals for Mount Union (2-3). Four other Purple Raiders recorded multi-goal efforts.
 
The Purple Raiders finished with a slight 38-32 edge in shots and an even slimmer 22-21 advantage in ground balls.

Carmen Papa (Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca Central) led the Tomcat offense with three goals, while Francis Ahia (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) tallied two goals and a team-high six groundballsTimothy O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Zachary Macurak (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) each added a goal in the loss.

The Purple Raiders scored three straight goals to start the contest, before a goal by Papa and another by Macurak made it 3-2 Mount Union with 5:53 to play in the first period. After consecutive goals by the Raiders, O'Shea converted on a man-up opportunity to trim the deficit to 5-3 at the end of the first period.

Mount Union scored five unanswered goals to begin the second period, before back-to-back goals by Papa drew Thiel to within five (10-5) at the half.

Unfortunately for the home team, they could get no closer, as the Purple Raiders outscored the Tomcats 7-2 over the final 30 minutes of play to seal the win.

The Tomcats return to action on Saturday, when they take on Otterbein University. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time.
