ARNOLD, Md. – Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) scored five goals Sunday, but it wasn't enough for the Thiel Tomcats in an 11-9 loss to the Berry Vikings at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md.
Mahdi scored Thiel's first two goals of the game, sandwiching a goal by Berry's Kelsey McAnnally, but the Vikings went on to score three straight goals to hold a 4-2 lead with a little more than 18 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Tomcats and Vikings traded three goals apiece over the remainder of the first half. Sharr Martin (San Diego, Calif./The Preuss School UCSD), Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) and Martin scored over the stretch, but the Tomcats trailed 7-5 at the half.

The Vikings opened scoring in the second half, but the Mahdi (2) and Martin ripped off three straight goals to tie up the game with 18-plus minutes remaining in regulation. Unfortunately, the Vikings went on to outscore the Tomcats 3-1 over the final 14:45 to earn the win.

The Tomcats (0-2) will return to action Wednesday when they take on Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
