CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The fourth-seeded Thiel College women's volleyball team was defeated 3-1 Friday night by the top-seeded Thomas More Saints in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament.
Thiel won the first set 27-25, but went on to lose the next three games (25-15, 25-19, 25-15).
Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) led the Tomcat attack with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Hall also finished with 15 digs to earn a double-double in the last match of her career.
Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) also had a double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs. Downs notched 26 digs in the loss while
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) had 14 digs and eight kills.
Stacy Howell, Jessica Knaley, and Felicity Britt each had double-digit kills for the Saints. Also for Thomas More, Howell had a game-high 19 kills.
The Tomcats wrapped up the 2014 season under the direction of first-year head coach
Kelly Barzak with a record of 14-17 overall. Hall ended her final season with the Tomcats with 289 kills, the fifth most kills in the PAC. Fellow senior
Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) tallied 539 digs, the third most in the conference.
