Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team battled to a 3-1 win over the Westminster Titans in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament Tuesday.
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) and Jenny Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) each recorded double-doubles in the victory. Hall dug out 15 Titan attacks and knocked down 10 kills. Shelley handed out 31 assists and had 13 digs. Freshman Veronica Brueggman (South Park, Pa./South Park) had nine kills and three solo blocks while Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor) had a team-high 25 digs.
A total of six Tomcats had more than four kills in the game, including Danielle Gomula (Northfield, Ohio/Trinity) and Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian), who each had six kills. Also for Thiel, Ashley Baer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) had 20 digs.
Alaura Hanssen and Kassie Freyermuth each had game-highs for the Titans. Hanssen had 13 kills while Freyermuth had 27 digs.
The Tomcats (14-16) move on to the conference semifinals where they will face the top-seeded Thomas More Saints in Crestview Hills, Ky. The match is Friday at 6 p.m.
