Box Score 2 MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel women's volleyball squad suffered a pair of setbacks Friday at the 2013 Gator Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College. The Tomcats fell 3-0 to the host, Allegheny, in their opener, and 3-1 to Bluffton University in the nightcap.
Earlier in the day, the Tomcats battled with the Allegheny Gators, but ultimately came up short, as the Gators won 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) to improve to 5-4.
Freshman Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) led the way for the Tomcats with 11 kills and eight digs. Fellow freshman Jennifer Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) tallied a team-best 15 assists, while sophomore Heather Reichenback (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) added 18 digs and two assists from her libero position. Freshman Alannah Keisling (Englewood, Fla./Lemon Bay) added eight kills and six digs, while junior
Lauren Richey (Harmarville, PA/Springdale) finished with nine kills.
In the 3-1 loss to Bluffton (25-21, 25-14, 29-27, 25-17), junior
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) tallied nine kills, 14 assists and 10 digs, recording her second double-double in as many matches. Richey again led the offense, piling up seven more kills and eight digs while Boyer added six kills and two service aces.
Thiel (0-11) returns to play tomorrow when they face Albion College at 10 a.m., followed by a match against the Bengals of Buffalo State at 12 p.m.
