Box Score 2 ADA, Ohio – The Thiel College women's volleyball team concluded their two days at the Ohio Northern University (ONU) Invitational with a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon.
The Tomcats fell to the host, ONU, 3-0, before dropping to Depauw (Ind.) by the same score.
For a young team like the Tomcats, there were some definite positives in defeat.
Freshman
Lenora Boyer (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Christian) continued to impress at outside hitter as she racked up 15 kills (1.15 kills per set) and 40 digs (3.08 per set) in her first four matches as a Tomcat. Boyer's efforts were good enough to earn her All-Tournament recognition, as she was one of six honored.
In the first match of the day against ONU, junior
Lauren Richey (Harmarville, PA/Springdale) led the Thiel attack with a team-high eight kills. Boyer and sophomore
Heather Reichenback (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) reached double-digit totals in digs, with 11 and 13, respectively.
The Thiel offense was led in the loss to Depauw (Ind.) by freshman
Alannah Keisling (Englewood, Fla./Lemon Bay) with eight kills and five digs. Four Tomcats registered double-digit digs, as
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) (13), Boyer (11),
Jennifer Shelley (Port Allegany, Pa./Port Allegany) (10) and Reichenback (11) each reached the mark.
Thiel is back in action on Friday, Sept. 6, when they travel to Huntingdon, Pa. to take part in the Juniata College Tournament. The first match, against Elizabethtown College, is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
