Box Score 2 MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of games Thursday during play at the NTC Spring Games. Thiel lost to Emerson 10-6 in the first game of the day before falling 7-1 to Marywood.
The Lions jumped out to a commanding 5-0 lead through one inning of play due in large part to Alexandra Wysota's grand slam.
Thiel outscored Emerson 6-5 over the remainder of the game but couldn't score enough runs down the stretch to make a comeback in spite of out-hitting Emerson, 16-12.
Ashley Dolan (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) and
Amanda Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) led the Tomcats with three hits apiece while
June Longbine (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore Central) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Brittany Rochford and Shannon Torosian led Emerson with three hits apiece. Wyosota had just one hit on the day, but her grand slam in the first brought home four critical early runs.
Allison Williams (Corry, Pa./Corry) pitched five innings of relief for the Tomcats. She allowed four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Alicia Daniele tossed a complete game for the Lions. She allowed 16 hits but only allowed six runs while striking out five and allowing one walk.
In the second game of the day Thiel suffered a 7-1 loss to Marywood University. The Tomcats hung tough with the Pacers through five innings, trailing just 2-1, but were outscored 5-0 over the final two innings.
Danielle Massengill (North Bend, Wash./Mt. Si) and
Morgan White (Warren, Ohio/Champion) both went 2-for-3 for the Tomcats. Massengill also drove in Thiel's run in the third inning when she doubled into the left field gap.
Mariah Runco went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Pacers and drove in three runs. Also for the Pacers, Meghin Palmer went 3-for-4.
Callahan suffered the loss. She threw a complete game, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Alexandra Stine earned the win. She gave up one earned run on eight hits. She struck out two and walked three.
The Tomcats (1-7) will wrap up play in the NTC Spring Games Friday. They will play Northwestern College (MN) at 9 a.m. and John Carroll University at 11 a.m.
