Thiel Men's Lacrosse cruises to win over Houghton

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel men's lacrosse team rolled to a 16-5 win at home against Houghton Tuesday.

With the win, the Tomcats improve to 3-4 after winning three of their last four games. Houghton, who is in its first year as a varsity sport, drops to 1-4 on the year.

Tim O'Shea led all scorers with four goals, and 11 different Tomcats recorded at least one point. Sophomore Zachary Macurak (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) added four points (three goals, one assist) while freshman Sean Loney (Linthicum, Md./North County) and Alex Casile (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) each chipped in three points.

Thiel posted seven goals in the first quarter, including six in the opening six minutes of the period, on their way to a 7-2 lead at the first break. After adding four more goals in the second period, the Tomcats took an 11-2 lead into halftime.

The Tomcats scored the first goal of the second half before Houghton posted its third and fourth goals of the day. However, Loney and Macurak responded with back-to-back goals in under a minute to push Thiel to a 15-4 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Thiel and Houghton each scored a goal, as the Tomcats cruised to a 16-5 win in front of the home faithful.

Sophomore Ryan Weldon (Centereach, N.Y./Newfield) earned the win in goal, getting the start and making one save.

The Tomcats return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 9, when they host Bethany College for a 3 p.m. match-up.
