Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Tomcat women's lacrosse squad lost to the visiting Fighting Scots of Wooster by the score of 18-5.
The Tomcats scored first, as
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) scored her 21
st goal of the season to put Thiel up 1-0 with 26:30 remaining. Wooster went on a 3-0 run from that point before
Beth Snider (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) ripped a free-position shot past the goalie with 18:56 left to play in the first half.
The Fighting Scots responded with a 4-0 run after Snider's goal, with
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) netting her 15
th goal of the season on a free-position attempt to make it 7-3 in favor of the hosts. Wooster continued to score in bunches, responding with another 3-0 run. Thiel answered with two goals in the final minute of the first half, as Snider, on a pass from
Alison Lange (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary), and
Hannah Stelmach (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) each found the back of the net to make the score 10-5.
The Fighting Scots shut the Tomcat offense down in the second half, as Wooster outscored Thiel 8-0 in the second frame.
Wooster outshot the Tomcats 31-to-13 and won 15-of-24 draw controls.
For Thiel,
Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) made eight saves in goal.
The Tomcat squad will return to the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on Monday, March 18 to take on Franciscan University. The game is expected to start at 4 p.m.
