Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 63-51 win over visiting Waynesburg on Wednesday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) also had a solid performance with 16 points and seven rebounds while
Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) totaled 12 points and seven boards as the Tomcats held off the Yellow Jackets for their second straight victory and tenth in a row over the Jackets- a streak that dates back to December 6, 2008.
Waynesburg led by as many as seven (27-20) with 1:51 left to play in the first half, but a 6-0 run, keyed by a Marquis Jackson rebound and put back, brought the Tomcats to within one point (27-26) at the half.
Thiel regained the lead at the 17:18 mark of the second half, utilizing a 10-0 run to take a 41-30 lead with 12:45 left to play. Harvey did the most damage, scoring six of his 12 points during three minute and 33 second stretch, helping to build a lead that the Tomcats never relinquished.
Thiel improves to 12-8 and 9-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Waynesburg falls to 9-14 and 4-10 in the PAC.
Jackson scored seven off the bench for the Tomcats, while also grabbing three boards, dishing out two assists and blocking a shot in 15 minutes of action. Senior
R.J. Brownlee (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) also added seven points and a team-high two steals.
Jason Propst led Waynesburg with 13 points and six rebounds. Thomas Ellis finished with 11 points, while Jacob Fleegle added nine points.
The Tomcats will be back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky to take on the first-place Thomas More Saints. Thiel returns home on Saturday, February 16, in the final regular season game of the season for the Tomcats, a day that will honor both the 2013 seniors and all returning alumni in a celebration of the completion of yet another winning season of Tomcat basketball.
