GREENVILLE, Pa. — Kamran McCaskill (Carol City, Fla./Miami Beach) scored a game-high 23 points as Thiel continued to play solid defense in an 82-52 blowout of visiting Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday.

The 30-point margin of victory was the largest this season for the Tomcats, and, with the win, Thiel clinches the third seed in the upcoming PAC tournament. The Tomcats will again host the Grove City Wolverines on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the PAC tournament quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

McCaskill had one of his best shooting nights of the year with an 8-of-10 mark from the field including a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. He added four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Defensively, the Tomcats were dominant in the first half. Thiel raced out to a 12-2 run in the first five minutes of the game, with McCaskill's four-point play putting the exclamation point on the run. The Tomcats continued to press defensively and kept the pressure on the Wolverines, who had few answers for the speed and tenacity of Thiel's defense.

The Tomcats held the Wolverines to just 19 points in the first half- the lowest total Thiel has held an opponent to in a half all season.

In the second half, Grove City got to within 15 points, 40-25, on a Brian Metzler lay-up with 16:08 remaining to play, but that was as close as they could get. A 7-0 Tomcat run, five of which were scored by McCaskill, increased the Thiel lead to 47-25 with 15 minutes to play and put the game out of Grove City's grasp.

Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 13 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking a shot in what was this senior class' final home regular season game of their Thiel careers. Fellow senior A.J. Forbes (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach) had four points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) scored eight points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out five assists and added two steals.

Senior R.J. Brownlee (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) scored six points and grabbed six rebounds, while Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic), limited to just 11 minutes of play due to illness, scored two points and grabbed two rebounds.

All 15 players who dressed recorded playing time, as Dotun Akinwale (Boyds, Md./St. Johns Prep.) led the reserves with nine points on 3-of-3 shooting, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc in seven minutes of play while Eric Mallinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) led the team with three blocks in 15 minutes off the bench.

Thiel held the Wolverines to 17 percent shooting in the first half and 32 percent in the game.

The Tomcats end the regular season at 13-9 overall and 10-6 in the conference, while the Wolverines fall to 10-15 and 5-10.
