Nine different Tomcats score in 65-48 win over Grove City

Box Score

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Tomcat men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack, led by a game-high 16 points from Chace McKinney (Boardman, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic), to defeat the Grove City Wolverines, 65-48 on Saturday.

It's the seventh straight win dating back to 2009 for Thiel over Grove City, and gives them back-to-back PAC wins after having posted a 72-64 win over Waynesburg on Wednesday.

Thiel raced out to a 10-3 lead to start the game, before seeing the Wolverines go on an 8-0 run of their own to take a brief 11-10 lead with 9:57 left in the first half. The Tomcats took back the lead and never relinquished control, as that marked the last time Thiel trailed in the contest. Thiel outscored Grove City 23-13 from that point forward en route to a 34-23 halftime lead.

The Tomcats led by as many as 18 in the second half, and the Wolverines could get no closer than to within 12 points on a Mitch Marmelstein jumper with 16:29 left to play.

Thiel was led by McKinney, who scored 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-6 from behind the three-point arc. Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East) dropped in 12 points and grabbed six boards, while Anthony Harvey (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) and Kamran McCaskill (Carol City, Fla./Miami Beach) each had eight points. Harvey also snagged seven rebounds.

The Tomcats are back in action next Saturday, when try travel to Beaver Falls, Pa. to take on the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
