Tomcat women's volleyball team takes two at Gators Invitational

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The women's volleyball team faced the Frostburg State Bobcats and the Penn-State Behrend Lions in day one of the Gators Invitational Friday evening at Allegheny College.
 
In the first match the Tomcats started off quick, defeating the Bobcats 25-14 in the first game. Thiel would continue that momentum, taking games two and three (25-16, 25-19). Once again Barzak led the team with 10 kills and six service aces while Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) tallied a team-high 11 digs. Collectively, the team had 12 service aces.


In the second match of the evening, the Tomcats again jumped on the board quickly against PSU-Behrend, winning set one by the score of 25-9. The Thiel attack was relentless, as they won set two 25-11 and won the final set, 25-18. Top performers for Thiel were Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) who tallied a team-high 14 kills, Lauren Richey (Harmarville, PA/Springdale) and Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson Milton), who each finished with six kills, respectively. Chine also added 13 digs, while Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) totaled 28 assists.


The Tomcats have won 15 consecutive sets, a streak that dates back two weeks. Thiel returns to action today in day two of the Gators Invitational, as they take on host Allegheny College at 10 a.m., followed by Case Western Reserve at 12 p.m.
