Tomcats are the Gator Volleyball Invitational Champions

The Tomcat women's volleyball team was crowned the 2012 Gator Volleyball Invitational Champions after defeating Case Western Reserve in five sets on Saturday.

Thiel began the day with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-16) win over Allegheny College. Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson Milton), Megg Andrews (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) and Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) each had eight kills, while Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) tallied 28 assists. Defensively, Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) recorded 11 digs, while the team had four blocks.

The Tomcats followed that win up by handing Case Western Reserve only its second loss of the season, in a dramatic, come-from-behind victory. The Tomcats won the first set 26-24, but the Spartans rallied to win the next two sets (27-25, 25-21), putting Thiel in a 2-1 hole. The Tomcats rallied, winning the fourth set 25-19, and taking the final set 15-13 to win the Gator Volleyball Invitational.

After a 0-4 start, the Tomcats have now won seven matches in a row and sit at 7-4 and 2-0 in the PAC. They will look to extend that winning streak on Wednesday September 19, when the Tomcats host the Saint Vincent Bearcats. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
