GAMBIER, Ohio – After watching the Kenyon College women's lacrosse squad jump out to an 11-3 halftime lead, the Tomcats played even with the Ladies throughout the second half but fell 18-10 Saturday afternoon.
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel) had her second six-goal effort in the last three games while
Kelley Bellia (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) registered the first three-goal game of her career.
Kenyon (6-7) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Mahdi scored on a free position shot at the 21:59 mark of the first half to trim the Ladies lead to two, 3-1. Kenyon would go to score the next seven straight goals, and after late scores by Mahdi and
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall), the Ladies went into the half with an 11-3 advantage.
Bellia's goal with 22:14 opened the second half scoring, and with Thiel (4-8) notching three of the second half's first five scores, the Tomcats were able to pull to within seven, 13-6. The Ladies were able to match the Tomcats scoring down the stretch to preserve their eight-goal win.
Emily Nichols and Amy Morgan each had three goals for Kenyon while Leah Sack posted a pair of goals and six assists in the victory. Meredith Bentsen secured the win in goal for the Ladies, stopping six Tomcat shots.
Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) had 13 saves in goal for Thiel.
The Tomcats return to action on Wednesday, April 25 at Waynesburg University. The match is slated to get underway at 5 p.m.
