WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Thiel women's lacrosse team captured its third consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon with an 11-7 victory over host Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.
Carly Cobb once again led the Tomcats (3-5) with a hat-trick, making it three-straight contest that Cobb has registered at least three goals and five games overall with that mark.
Emily Harrigan (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) and Victoria Williamson each added two scores on the day and
Cassy Mahdi (Odenton, Md./Arundel),
Kelley Bellia (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk),
Jenna Simanovsky (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North), and
Hannah Stelmach (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) each contributed one. Bellia, Harrigan, and Mahdi also each added two assists apiece.
Defensively, Thiel held their opponent under ten goals for the third straight contest as
Asia Wallace (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) anchored the “D” with 13 saves on the day, including eight in the second half to help seal the victory.
Thiel struck quickly for the third straight contest as they found the net in the first minute of play. Bellia found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the year off an assists from Mahdi to make the score 1-0 before the Cardinals came back with two quick goals as Alyssa Johnson found the net at the 26:40 mark, and Victoria Blatt scored just 38 seconds later to give Otterbein the 2-1 lead.
The rest of the first half was dominated by the Tomcats as they posted the next seven goals of the game, including two from Harrigan and Williamson, and on apiece by Cobb, Mahdi, and Simanovsky to take the 8-2 lead into the half.
After Otterbein's Rebecca Carter started the scoring off in the second half. Cobb notched back-to-back goals 10 minutes apart to register her fifth hat-trick of the season, and become the programs first ever 20-goal scorer. Stelmach's third goal of the season with just over five minutes remaining rounded the scoring for the Tomcats, and Thiel took the game 11-7.
The Tomcats will look to continue their winning streak when they return home on Tuesday, April 4 to host Alfred College. The contest scheduled in the Rissell-Schreyer Dome will begin at six p.m.
