LATROBE, Pa. — Thiel finished off a season sweep of Saint Vincent College with a dominant performance Tuesday night, sweeping the Bearcats by scores of 25-9, 25-19, 25-17.

The Tomcats jumped all over the Bearcats, cruising to an opening set win, 25-9. The Bearcats hung tough in the second set, as both teams went back and forth. The Bearcats got to within three (22-19) but the Tomcats were just too much, not allowing St. Vincent to score another point and winning the set 25-19.

The Bearcats jumped out to an early 9-5 lead in set three, but the Tomcats chipped away at their lead, finally tying the score at 12-12. Stephanie Day (Millersburg, Ohio/Waynedale) went on a roll serving for the Tomcats, stretching their lead to 17-12 before St. Vincent could answer. That was as close as the Bearcats got to the lead, as the Tomcats closed out the set 25-17 to sweep the match.

The Tomcats improve to 14-5 overall and 8-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The win moves them into sole possession of second place in the conference. Coach Steve Brewer's squad has won five straight matches.

Thiel will return to action with a conference match against Bethany on Thursday. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
