Tomcats sweep Presidents to improve to 17-6 overall

GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Thiel women's volleyball squad won its eighth match in its last nine matches on Thursday night with a sweep of Washington and Jefferson College, 25-11, 25-14, 25-21 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The win improves the Tomcats overall record to 17-6, as they are now 11-2 in PAC play.

The Tomcats were a force at the net all night, recording 12 total blocks. Senior middle hitter Megg Andrews (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) led the team with five total blocks, while also contributing six kills. Fellow senior Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) added four total blocks and led the offense with 11 kills.

Thiel sophomore Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) added a team-high 27 digs and three service aces, while Stephanie Day (Millersburg, Ohio/Waynedale) chipped in a team-best 17 assists in the win.

The win over the Presidents gives the Tomcats momentum going into the weekend, as they have a non-conference match with the College of Wooster on Saturday, and travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky to take on first-place Thomas More on Sunday.

The Tomcats start the weekend off at Wooster on Saturday at 4 p.m. and play the Thomas More Saints at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
