BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College volleyball team returned to its winning ways with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-23), Presidents' Athletic Conference victory at Geneva on Saturday.
It is the first time that the Tomcats have completed the season sweep since Geneva joined the PAC in 2005, as Thiel defeated Geneva on Sept. 22, 3-1 at Bethany.
The win kicks off a pivotal week for the Tomcats, as they visit play four matches next week, as they start the week with by hosting Grove City on Tuesday, W&J on Thursday, and traveling to Wooster on Saturday and to PAC-frontrunner Thomas More (19-4; 12-0 PAC) on Sunday.
Thiel is now 15-6 overall, including a 9-2 mark in league play.
Seniors
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) and
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson Milton) filled the roles of offensive leaders for the 'Cats, as Barzak finished with 11 kills and five digs while Chine added a season-high 30 digs and seven kills.
Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) finished with a double-double, pacing Thiel in assists with 16 and adding 13 digs.
Olivia Sipos (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) added 14 digs, while
Stephanie Day (Millersburg, Ohio/Waynedale) contributed 16 assists and nine digs.
Heather Reichenback (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) chipped in seven kills and 16 digs, while
Megg Andrews (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) slammed down five kills of her own. The Tomcats, who came into the match ranking 17
th in NCAA DIII with 2.25 blocks per set, had 8 total blocks (2.67 per set) in the win.
Thiel returns to action on Tuesday when they host Grove City College in a PAC match. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
