GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team was defeated in four sets by visiting Bethany College Thursday night at Beeghley Gymnasium. The loss drops the Tomcats to 14-6 overall and 8-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Bethany won the first set 25-23. The Tomcats responded, as they jumped out to an early lead in the set second and had an answer with each Bison response, winning it 26-24. Bethany (21-5; 9-2 PAC) battled back though, taking sets three and four by the scores of 25-18 and 25-17, to win the match 3-1.
Senior outside hitter
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson Milton) paced the Tomcats offensively with team-highs in kills (13) and digs (16). With her 13 kills, Chine officially joins the 1,000 kills club, becoming just the sixth member in Tomcats history. She joins teammate and fellow senior
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland), who added 11 kills and is now tied for second on the all-time kills list with 1,193.
Leanna Yeager (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) added seven kills in the loss, while
Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) led the way with 23 assists.
Olivia Sipos (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) and
Stephanie Day (Millersburg, Ohio/Waynedale) contributed 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
Thiel is set to return to action on Tuesday, October 17 when they host Grove City College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
