CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Thiel women's volleyball squad had a strong showing on Saturday after suffering a pair of setbacks on Friday, defeating Johns Hopkins University 3-1 and Franciscan University of Steubenville 3-0 at the 13th annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational, co-hosted by Case Western Reserve University and Baldwin-Wallace College.

Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson Milton) was one of just 10 participating student-athletes to be selected to the all-tournament team from the 14-team field.
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) tallied 20 kills and 11 digs in the Tomcats' 3-1 win over Johns Hopkins (21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-21). Chine added nine kills and 10 digs while
Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) contributed 45 kills.
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) tallied nine kills and 11 digs with
Lauren Downs (Mentor, OH/Mentor HS) and
Alex Hall (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) chipping in with 11 digs each.
Barzak followed up a stellar effort against Blue Jays with another terrific performance in the 3-0 win (25-15; 25-17; 25-13) over Franciscan, leading the way with 15 kills, seven digs, and four service aces. Meister tallied 30 assists and six digs while Chine totaled five kills, six digs, and three service aces.
Thiel (4-4) opens its 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule on Saturday, Sept. 17 at a Bethany College tri-match. The Tomcats are scheduled to take on the host Bison at 11 a.m. followed by a matchup against Saint Vincent College at 1 p.m.
