GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Thiel men's lacrosse team came up short in its home finale in the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on Saturday, dropping a 14-3 verdict to visiting Washington & Jefferson.
The Presidents (4-8) jumped out to a 7-0 lead with four goals in the first quarter and the first three goals of the second quarter. Mark Ringeling, Andrew Wallick and Joseph Eck scored two goals apiece during the early run, while Tom Starr added one goal.
Francis Ahia (Penn Hills, Pa., Penn Hills) put the Tomcats on the board with 4:19 left in the first half. The freshman scored his 12th goal of the season after winning the faceoff and taking it all the way to the net himself.
With a 7-1 lead after the first half, W&J went on the offensive again with two straight goals by Eck followed by two more goals from Wallick. In the fourth quarter, John Zustra and Grant Stouffer tallied their first goals of the game and Eck put in his fifth score to give the Presidents a 14-1 advantage.
Andy Shaver (Liverpool, N.Y., West Genesee) scored the final two goals of the game for the Tomcats. His 25th goal of the season was unassisted, while his team-leading 26th goal came after a pass from
Benji Emile (Brooklyn, N.Y., Midwood ). It was Emile's second assist of the year.
Accuracy may have been the difference in the game for Thiel. The Tomcats had just four shots less than W&J, but the Presidents had 13 more shots on goal.

Richard Cannon (Allison Park, Pa., Shaler Area) made 14 saves.
Thiel's final three games of the season will be on the road, starting with Otterbein on Saturday.
