NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel men's cross country squad earned a second-place finish at Saturday's 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Cross Country Championships, hosted by Westminster College. Richard Peterson (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) paced the Tomcats' efforts, running to a third-place finish.

Saint Vincent College claimed its second-straight PAC team title with 35 pts. The Tomcats finished second with 70 and Grove City College finished third with 76. The Bearcats Kevin Wanichko earned the individual title at the event.

"As coaches we couldn't be any more proud of the way both our teams competed today. The conditions were less than stellar … in fact they were downright awful. The rain and mud slowed people down and we believe our teams were able to take advantage of that. We have been training all year for such an occasion, and today showed what focus, persistence, and hard work will get you,” said Tomcat head coach Steve Carr.

Peterson's time of 26:56.40 earned him the third place finish and first-team all-PAC honors after placing third at last year's conference championships. Regis Wagner (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) notched a seventh-place finish and first-team all-PAC honors with a time of 27:34.00 after posting a seventh-place finish at the PAC Championships a year ago, while Steve Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional), the top freshman finisher at Saturday's event, finished eighth and secured second-team all-PAC honors with a time of 27:35.60.

Peterson and Wagner are just the third pair of Tomcats to earn first-team all-conference honors since the 1963 season.

Brandon DuLaney finished 18th (28:37.30) and Nathan Carango (Lawton, Mich./Lawton ) was 40th (29:40.80). Eric Scherer (Cleona, Pa./Annville Cleona) was 47th with a time of 29:57.70 while Mason Bednash (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Midpark) finished 52nd (30:18.60). Bryan Smith (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) was 84th with a time of 32:52.30.

Thiel will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional Championships, which will be hosted by DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.
