Tomcats Fall at Home to Thomas More 50-7

GREENVILLE, Pa. – After carrying just a 7-0 lead after one period, the offense of eighth-ranked Thomas More College exploded in the second, scoring 28 unanswered points over a span of just 6:28 to take a 42-0 lead into the half before posting a 50-7 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel College Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The Saints (4-0, 3-0) amassed 520 yards of offense while limiting Thiel (0-5, 0-3) to just 169. Thomas More had 11 players carry the ball, finishing with a 336-51 edge in rushing. Landon Savoy lead the way with a game-high 103 yards on a team-best 15 carries. Luke Magness, who entered the game for starting Saints quarterback Robert Kues in the third quarter, finished with 67 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown while Kendall Owens carried five times for 58 yards and two scores. Owens was also the top receiving threat for the Saints, catching four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Kues completed 11-of-14 passes for 184 yards and three scores. Along with the Owens score, Domonique Hayden (3-21-1) and Corie Cartmell (2-81-1) also caught scoring passes.

Alex Taylor totaled seven tackles while Kenny Orloff finished with five to lead the Saints defensively.

Andrew Smith (Williamsfield, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) completed 17-of-34 passes for 138 yards and a score. Nate Houpt (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) caught a game-high seven passes for 59 yards and a score, while Nate Blazevich (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) and Kyle Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) each hauled in three. De'Von Drish (Bratenahl, Ohio/Ginn Academy) rushed 12 times for 28 yards while Taylor Fink (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) carried seven times for 27 yards.

Ethan Ludwig (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) registered a career-high 13 tackles and recovered a fumble for the Tomcats. Tom Thorpe (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) added eight stops and a pair of pass breakups while John Amorose (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) and Brian Davis (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) each tallied seven.

Following an Oct. 8 bye the Tomcats return to PAC action on Oct. 17 when they travel to Bethany College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
