BEAVER FALLS — Thiel's men's basketball team lost back-to-back games for the first time this season following its 80-77 defeat to homestanding Geneva on Wednesday.
The last time the Tomcats lost two straight games was on Jan. 16 of last season. They followed up the second loss with an eight-game win streak.
Richard Colick led the Golden Tornadoes the close win with a game-high 30 points and seven boards.He scored 26 of his points in the second half on 8-of-11 shooting. He was also aided by a 10-for-10 mark at the foul line for the game.
The Tomcats led by one point at the half despite shooting just 32 percent from the field. The shooting improved to a solid 56 percent in the second half, but they struggled defensively giving up 46 second-half points.
Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa., George Junior Republic), who scored 11 points in the first half, and
Lance Randall (Canfield, Ohio, Ursuline) each scored 19 points for Thiel while
Aundra Jones (Youngstown, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic) and
Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) scored 10 and nine points, respectively.
Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio, Kennedy Catholic)had an off night but still came up just short of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
The remainder of the Tomcats' schedule consists of Presidents' Athletic Conference opponents. They hold a one-game lead in the conference with six games to play, starting with Washington & Jefferson at home Saturday.
