GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Thiel men's basketball team is no longer undefeated in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) after suffering a 56-55 loss to homestanding Saint Vincent on Saturday.
Tauvon Pettiforg scored the winning bucket for the Bearcats on a layup with five seconds left in the game. The Tomcats had one last shot but missed a 3-point attempt.
Prior to Pettiford's deciding basket,
Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa., George Junior Republic) hit a big shot for Thiel. The Tomcats trailed by one point before Adams hit a jumper with 13 seconds remaining to put his team up 55-54.
Thiel falls to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in the PAC. The Tomcats still hold a one-game lead over both Bethany and Thomas More with six conference games left on the schedule.
Ladell Trotty (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) led the Tomcats in both scoring with 12 points and rebounds with nine. Eight of his points came in the second half. Adams was the only other player to score in double figures with his 11 points, but the usually solid shooter struggled from beyond the arc.
B.J. McGill carried the Bearcats in the first half with 15 of the team's 29 points and then added four more in the second half to lead all scorers with 19. Grant Latus tallied 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Tomcats will return to action with a non-conference game at Geneva on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.).
